PUBLIC HEARING: The grade reconfiguration proposal hearing brought only five parents to speak. There were many good questions raised but no answers given.
Examples:
1) concern about 9th grade going into main building with not enough classroom space
2) concerns about main building not being able to accommodate the lunch room schedules with student numbers
3) the need to build a new earth science lab (where is the money going to come from)
4) have they considered possible enrollment from the Parade of Homes site and the apartment complex going up
5) a study was done on this change years ago and it was not accepted
The LCSD has passed the first phase in the process of the grade reconfiguration. The next step is to look at the Building Utilization: staffing and building uses. The third step will look and the entire redistricting of all schools and all grades.
TECHNOLOGY: Bonnie Ladd has said the new student laptops are in all the buildings. Software is being installed on them, and then one cart per classroom with laptops will be distributed. The IPADS are also in buildings. That is one cart per building with IPADS. The new projectors have been installed in the classrooms.
KINDERGARTEN: It was stated that many of the kindergartens are already capped for this year. The K enrollment is up this year and some students will not be attending their home school because of the cap. The cap is 22 kindergardeners per room. A new K teacher was hired that night due to this problem.
LUNCHES: All lunches will be increased by $0.05 this year due to the Federal Mandate proposed on the schools.
APRIL BREAK DATES WILL CHANGE: The State Education Department has recently decided to hold the ELA testing for students during that week. A call to the district office for the new break date will help you with your plans. No date has been given yet.
