TOWN OF CLAY CODES AND SAFETY

There has been an influx of social media discussion regarding the condition of properties, neighborhoods and behavior. If you have an issue with a neighbor’s property, animals or other issues—take a minute and discuss it with them. If it is a matter of law, call the sheriff’s department. If this doesn’t work, anyone can file a complaint of code enforcement violations by going to the town offices and filling out a form or going to the town of Clay website (townofclay.org/planning/complaints) and filling out a form electronically.

Traffic control is a big issue, especially the stop sign at the intersection of Blueberry and Huckleberry. This had been brought to the town’s attention in the past. After evaluations by the County DOT, highway and engineering departments, it has been determined that the grade of the road precludes a third stop sign. They determined with a third stop sign and the grade of the road and winter conditions, vehicles would have difficulty navigating this area. Regardless of how many signs are installed, it only matters if they are followed.

New York State is very clear about its bicycle laws. NY Vehicle and Traffic Law (VTL) – §1231 – Traffic laws apply to persons riding bicycles – Every person riding a bicycle ….. upon a roadway shall be granted all of the rights and shall be subject to all of the duties applicable to the driver of a vehicle. Including right side of road, adhering to signs and traffic signals.

Any and all residents are welcome to attend any Town of Clay board meeting to keep up with what is going on in our community. Any questions, contact Town Affairs Coordinator Mike Banks at 315-652-2657.
